The Hart Crane Memorial Poetry Contest

In its early years, the Hart Crane Award was underwritten by the Helen Hart Hurlbert Foundation, named after Crane’s cousin. It is now sponsored by Kent State University at Trumbull. Previous recipients of the Hart Crane Award include Jeanne Bryner (northeastern Ohio poet and nurse, who has published seven books and won the American Journal of Nursing 2012 Book of the Year Award), Frank Polite (Pushcart Prize Winner for his Hart Crane Award poem) and Rane Arroyo (winner of Allen Ginsberg Poetry Award, Carl Sandburg Poetry Award, Gwendolyn Brooks Poetry Prize, John Ciardi Poetry Prize, and the Pushcart Prize).
